Airborne Museum at the Bridge
Opened on 31 March 2017, the museum focuses on the bridge action through personal accounts of three men who died at the same spot: British Lieutenant John Grayburn VC, German Hauptsturmführer Viktor Gräbner, and Dutch Captain Jacob Groenewoud. A glass lookout tower offers direct views of the John Frost Bridge and the Rhine. A short introductory film in the basement sets the scene in six minutes. The building also houses a VVV tourist information point. Entry is free and no booking is required.
The museum was created through a collaboration between Arnhem municipality and the Airborne Museum Hartenstein, with funding from vfonds — the National Fund for Peace, Freedom and Veterans Care — and the Province of Gelderland. It works well as a free first stop before travelling out to the larger Hartenstein museum in Oosterbeek. The two museums together give a complete picture of the battle, from the bridge action to the wider perimeter defence.
