Park Klarenbeek
The land traces its origins to the Carthusian monastery Monnikhuizen, established around 1342 and dissolved in 1572. The municipality purchased the estate in 1886 for 243,000 guilders and laid out the park across a wooded valley in North Arnhem. An open-air swimming pool opened in 1954 and is still in operation each summer, with a 50-metre main pool, diving towers, and a children's pool — a local institution that has now run for over 70 years.
The park covers around 69 hectares. A pond in the southeastern section was originally dug by monks from the Monnikhuizen monastery; a stream runs through the valley below. Restaurant De Steenen Tafel is located in the old water tower on the park grounds and makes a good stopping point on a walk. Less visited than Sonsbeek, the park is a genuinely quiet alternative.
